The world is getting more complex, and we are grappling with complexity. Today the word complex is less of description of the world we deal with and more a reflection of our struggle in dealing with it. In that light, the problem is not with the world but with our thinking, which is failing us in dealing with the world. At SystemsWay, we believe that complexity has always been a good thing. All value creation has occurred and will continue to occur because someone developed and managed more complex systems. So, if we are to be successful and thrive, we need to embrace complexity and develop and manage more complex systems.

The question is, if we were successful in managing complexity so far, why are we struggling now? A very good question. Historically, the complexity that we have been dealing with was primarily mechanistic and technological systems. Our analytical thinking was perfect to deal with that complexity. However, the complexity of the 21st century is of a fundamentally different nature. It's the complexity of growth in interconnectedness and, more importantly, interdependence. Applying an analytical approach of simplifying, breaking into smaller systems, dividing, and conquering not only fails to deal with this newer complexity, it worsens systems, leading to applying more analytical approaches to solve the problem until the problem becomes chronic. The newer Systems Thinking was conceived to deal with this newer complexity.

If 21st-century leadership is about managing complexity, it is imperative for leaders to learn systems thinking so they can embrace complexity instead of continuing to grapple with complexity in their attempt to tame it. In the 21st century, leadership will be defined not by leading the people but by leading the systems of which people are a part. Embracing Systems Thinking and to be a Systems Thinker will be primary trait of leader in 21st century.

On the first day of the course, you will be immersed in an exhilarating real-life business simulation. This experience will reveal the deep limitations of your current thinking in handling simple organizational complexities. You will uncover how your current thinking creates the illusion of learning from experience. We will demonstrate that this often leads to pseudo-knowledge, making you believe you have gained knowledge when you haven't. We will argue that this is the root cause of all organizational dysfunction. We'll contend that systems are not inherently complex; rather, our current analytical-only thinking, which we use to learn from experience, contradicts the nature of modern systems. The objective is not merely to show how our current thinking is flawed and leads to failure, but to highlight that if our current thinking can lead to success, adopting newer thinking compatible with complex systems could result in even greater success. We will then gradually introduce the course structure, which we will cover over the next four days:

1. System of Knowledge: Understanding how you know what you know and defining true knowledge.

2. Knowledge of Systems: Building on the System of Knowledge to acquire new insights into various ways in which systems work.

3. Everything as a System: Learning to see systems everywhere such as such as Goals As A System, Team As A System, SDLC As A System, Family As a A System etc.

4. Humans as a System: Recognizing that systems exist because humans do, and understanding oneself and others is crucial for seeing everything as a system. Critical that we humanize systems.

We will close the training by guiding you how to integrate the four concepts SystemsWay.

On second day, you will be introduced to concept of Philosophy. The case we will make that every human is philosopher and they have their own philosophy, either they developed their learnt in school or developed their own. Our objective is not to study history of philosophy or philosophy of different philosophers because over centuries, philosophy of most philosopher has been proven to be bad philosophy. We will introduce you to what we believe are good philosophy. We will introduce you to Philosophy of Science and Philosophy of Systems. We will primarily focus on on epistemology meaning how does one know what they know is knowledge so you can demarcate line between knowlege and pseudo knowledge and avoid becoming delusional learner as proved in day #1 and also develop capability to question everything we are teaching you because how you know what we are teaching you is not non-sense.

Note: The original workshop did not include Systems of Knowledge. Initially, when individuals underwent our course on Systems Thinking, they employed these methods appropriately. However, some of these same individuals began using these methods for misuse. When questioned, they justified this misuse by referencing the very systems methods we had taught them. We came to the realization that these individuals were misguided; they were unaware when they were misusing the methods and struggled to distinguish between genuine knowledge and pseudo-knowledge. Thus, we made the decision to incorporate a section on Systems of Knowledge. Despite widespread skepticism—many claimed that philosophy courses were of little interest and would detract from our main course—we felt it was our moral obligation to include it. Surprisingly, it's the most theoretical part of the course, yet it garnered the most appreciation and love from our participants because it taught them how to separate knowledge from pseudo-knowledge.

Now that you've learned to distinguish between genuine knowledge and pseudo-knowledge, we'll delve into the concepts of systems and thinking, exploring their interconnectedness. We'll illustrate how your current thought processes lean towards analytical nature, dissecting each step of analytical thinking—often used heuristically but rarely reflected upon. Through this dissection, we'll unveil the potency of analytical thinking and its application to non-living systems such as machinery and technology.

Next, we'll delve into the limitations of analytical thinking, particularly its tendency to foster a narrow understanding of the functioning of living systems like biological, ecological, and social systems such as corporations. Introducing you to a plethora of concepts from General Systems Theory and its latest developments, we'll empower you to cultivate a deeper understanding of living systems like families, corporations, teams, and societies. This understanding will equip you to intervene in systems effectively, aligning them with desired outcomes.

We'll then explore the art of framing problems from a systems perspective and navigating through solutions—absolving, resolving, solving, and dissolving them using simple interventions. Introducing concepts like Perspectives, Archetypes, and Complex Adaptive Systems, we'll leverage the knowledge we've gathered to dissect practical examples. We'll examine how Systems Thinkers perceive the world, unraveling the complexity of systems they once deemed inscrutable.

With this enhanced understanding, we'll delve into the realm of predictions, discerning which interventions might backfire and which hold potential for success. Finally, we'll unravel the historical struggle of organizations in becoming learning entities and demonstrate how systems thinking can facilitate this transformation, enabling organizations to evolve into learning entities.

We will engage in hands-on exercises to explore how Systems Thinkers perceive systems in everything around them. By selecting a few systems that interest the audience, we will collectively analyze them through a systems lens. We will question whether this approach leads to a better understanding, ultimately enabling us to design, intervene, operate, and manage these systems more effectively.

When we discussed "Everything As A System," we mean that every system of which people are a part of. People as in individuals and people as a group are living systems too. In the 21st century, for knowledge-developing organizations, we can't think of a human analytically as a cog in a mechanistic system. You will learn that systems exist because humans exist, and unless we develop an understanding of humans as a system, it's difficult to design effective systems of which people are a part of.

The objective of the course is to make you SystemsWayAware. That awareness comes not when know all the four pieces in silo and isolation but able to integrate them in your mind as unified whole. We will put attempt to integrate the four parts in your head so you get an ah! and that ah! can represents your understanding SystemsWay. When that happens, you are now SystemsWayAware.

What kind of job I can get after attending the Systems Thinking workshop

None. Most jobs do not specify Systems Thinking as a key skill, and even if they do, most do not know how to interview for that skill. So do not attend this course to get a career or salary boost. Systems Thinking is a vital life skill applicable to every domain of your life, including the workplace. It can enhance your performance in interviews, team meetings, and interactions with colleagues. However, attending a Systems Thinking workshop may potentially make your life challenging, as you may start seeing the world differently and get frustrated about why people around you can't see what you see. No wonder it's often said that ignorance is bliss and knowledge is a curse. Make your life choices. This is the reason that our Systems Thinking course is very effective for team building, team cohesion, and team learning because post-course they have the same language and mental model to converse with.

Can I attend the course online ?

This is an immersive meaning in person workshop. If you are interested in joining a remote workshop, we will launch in few months. Only due to some accidental reason, if someone can't show of or attend some emergency, we will turn on camera so person can attend remotely. But you shall sign up on assumption that you plans to attend all 5 days in person.

How do I know if this course is applicable to me ?

Thinking is the most critical and general skill. If you wonder why people create systems in which they themselves suffer, if you question why things are the way they are, why corporations run the way they do, and why, despite everyone working hard, corporations do not deliver value to their potential, then you are fit for the course. Important to note, in this course se do not provide solution to your problem. We develop understanding so you can seek solution aroud pathways that you have not traversed before.

For whom course is not applicable ?

If you're not interested in fixing systems around you—whether in software development, product development, procurement, or site operations—then this course isn't for you. If you prefer to keep your head down and simply deliver the work assigned to you, you don't need this course. There's nothing wrong with not caring about the systems around you. However, many people with a similar mindset have had eye-opening experiences in this course, as it's natural to be curious about the systems we are part of. Once aware, people often strive to improve these systems. Remember, we don't just improve systems; we focus on improving the systems that include people. If you don't understand the difference, you should attend our workshop.
